Summary: The New Product Development (NPD) Engineering Supervisor will lead and coordinate our engineering team based in Mason, Ohio. In this role, you will directly supervise a talented team of mechanical engineers to design, test, and launch commercial and residential overhead doors. This position is pivotal in translating strategic goals into structured day-to-day operations. You will be responsible for tracking the team's project progress, driving key initiatives through our structured Gate Process from concept to launch, and assisting with the growth of our Mason Technology Center. In addition, you will help lead the team through the transition from legacy AutoCAD 2D and manual file management (Windows directories and email) to a modernized 3D CAD modeling workflow using Autodesk Inventor and Autodesk Vault PDM. Acting as a facilitator and technical mentor, you will remove roadblocks, support fast prototyping of new ideas, and ensure the engineering team is aligned, empowered, and poised for growth. While primarily a leadership and coordination role, you may also provide direct engineering support and assist on design projects as needed. Responsibilities:
- Drive Project Tracking & Coordinated Execution: Establish, maintain, and track clear workflows, milestones, and project timelines for the Mason team.
- Guide and Facilitate the Gate Process: Lead and support the team in navigating projects through each stage of the New Product Development (NPD) Gate Process. Ensure all technical reviews, documentation, and milestones are completed thoroughly and on schedule.
- Help Support Autodesk Inventor & Vault Implementation: Help lead and coordinate the team's transition from legacy AutoCAD 2D drafting and unstructured file storage (local Windows folders, emails) to a standardized 3D modeling environment using Autodesk Inventor and Autodesk Vault for product data management. Assist in establishing design best practices, drawing standards, and workflows.
- Provide Design & Engineering Support: Assist with hands-on mechanical design, detailing, component specification, or engineering calculations when needed to support the team, eliminate bottlenecks, or help progress critical projects.
- Accelerate Fast Prototyping & Concept Validation: Cultivate a high-tempo rapid prototyping capability within the team to quickly vet and proof new design concepts. Coordinate proof-of-concept assemblies and physical prototypes utilizing internal assets or external partners to fail fast and iterate quickly.
- Build and Scale the Mason Technology Center: Assist the Tech Center Manager by specifying, acquiring, and installing necessary prototype and testing equipment to build up our validation capabilities.
- Supervise and Facilitate Team Alignment: Provide daily guidance, conduct regular check-ins, and manage project dependencies for the Mason engineering team. Act as the primary coordinator to eliminate bottlenecks, resolve conflicts, and foster seamless communication.
- Champion Tailored Growth and Mentorship: Provide continuous coaching and professional mentorship to individual engineers. Support skill development, identify opportunities for growth, and guide team members through technical workflows.
- Cultivate a Positive and Innovative Culture: Build a collaborative environment where team members feel safe to voice ideas, test theories, and learn from mistakes. Recognize and celebrate team milestones and individual achievements. Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- 7–10 years of experience in product development engineering, with 1–3 years of experience in a lead, supervisory, or project engineering role.
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills with a proven track record of mentoring engineering team members through technical workflows.
- Strong proficiency in 3D CAD modeling and product data management
- Understanding of mechanical design best practices, including GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing), stack-up analysis, and Design for Manufacturability (DFM).
- Hands-on experience with rapid prototyping methodologies (e.g., 3D printing, CNC, soft tooling) to bring early-stage physical concepts to life quickly.
- Practical experience managing project workflows and leading teams through a structured Gate Process (Stage-Gate) from concept to launch.
- Familiarity with ECO (Engineering Change Order) processes and supporting project launch, tooling, and production readiness.
- Familiarity with laboratory environments, safety standards, and hands-on testing/validation of mechanical, electrical, or electromechanical systems.
- Proficiency in engineering project management tools (e.g., Jira, MS Project, or similar platforms). Preferred Qualifications:
