Welcome to Ontic Bishops Cleeve, our 64,000 sq ft facility in Cheltenham. Delivering predominantly electronic and electro-mechanical product lines, this site specialises in fuel measurement systems, emergency oxygen systems, barometrics, and complex electro-mechanical assemblies. Ontic, a leading licensor and manufacturer of complex engineering parts for the global aerospace and defence industries, is now recruiting for a Health & Safety Manager to join our Bishops Cleeve site in Cheltenham . You’ll play a key role in shaping and embedding a positive health and safety culture across the site, ensuring that our operations continue to meet the highest standards of safety, compliance, and employee well-being. This role will be based at our Ontic Bishops Cleeve site, although occasional travel between our Gloucestershire sites should be expected. The Role: Reporting directly to the Site Director, you'll be responsible for managing health and safety risks across our Bishops Cleeve site. You'll work closely with the

team to maintain and further develop a strong safety management system for Ontic UK. You'll ensure that employees and contractors comply with relevant safety legislation and that health and safety policies, procedures, and best practices are understood, adopted, and adhered to. You'll also plan, implement, monitor, and review protective and preventative safety measures across the site. As a Health & Safety Manager, you'll need to:

  • Work closely with contractors and the site facilities team on all aspects of facility development, maintenance, and improvement.
  • Ensure that new, transferring, and recommissioned products and equipment are introduced in a safe and compliant manner.
  • Oversee site processes and ensure company compliance with HSE legislation.
  • Attend site-specific leadership meetings and site walks.
  • Write and maintain site-specific policies and procedures.
  • Implement and maintain a functional safety management system, including site audits, general risk assessment processes, and control of contractors.
  • Deliver proactive site-wide HSE training, including observation reporting.
  • Act as the main point of contact for day-to-day health and safety matters at Bishops Cleeve.
  • Manage and support accident and incident investigations across the site.
  • Organise and manage the site health and safety committee.
  • Support Occupational Health rehabilitation activities and manage health surveillance referrals.
  • Record, monitor, and report site safety KPIs.
  • Ensure the site action tracker is effectively managed and that actions are closed in a timely manner.
  • Support PMO and operational teams with the introduction of new products and equipment, ensuring a pragmatic and compliant approach is taken, including with international equipment. Knowledge, Skills & Experience: You’ll bring strong IT skills, with confidence using Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel, OneNote, and PowerPoint. In this role, you’ll have the opportunity to inspire, coach, and lead others in health and safety, working closely with people across all areas of the business. You’ll need to be an excellent communicator who can adapt your approach to suit different audiences. Ideally, you’ll have experience within manufacturing or engineering, or have worked within the aerospace or aviation industry. Knowledge of HP oils and air systems, safety guarding, and NDT radiation exposure would be an advantage, as would familiarity with DSEAR and high-voltage environments. Qualifications
