Consultant Psychiatrist

Job Summary The Consultant Psychiatrist is responsible for providing comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing management of patients with a wide range of mental health and psychiatric conditions. The role involves delivering evidence-based, patient-centered care and working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to support the psychological and overall well-being of patients. Key Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive psychiatric assessments, including clinical history, mental status examination, and risk assessment.
• Diagnose and manage a wide range of psychiatric and mental health conditions.
• Develop individualized treatment plans based on patients' clinical needs.
• Provide pharmacological and, where appropriately trained, psychological interventions.
• Monitor patients' response to treatment and adjust medications or treatment plans as required.
• Assess and manage patients presenting with acute psychiatric conditions and clinical emergencies.
• Evaluate and manage risks related to self-harm, suicide, aggression, abuse, and other safeguarding concerns.
• Provide appropriate referrals to psychologists, therapists, social workers, or other medical specialists when required.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure coordinated and comprehensive patient care.
• Provide psychiatric consultations for patients with complex medical or psychological needs when required.
• Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential medical records and clinical documentation.
• Communicate effectively with patients and their families regarding diagnosis, treatment options, prognosis, and follow-up care.
• Provide appropriate patient and family education regarding mental health conditions and treatment.
• Participate in multidisciplinary meetings, case conferences, clinical audits, and quality improvement activities.
• Comply with hospital policies, professional standards, infection control procedures, and patient safety requirements.
• Maintain current knowledge of developments in psychiatry through continuing professional education and clinical training.
• Support and mentor junior doctors and other healthcare professionals when required. Qualifications
• Medical degree ( MBBS/MD or equivalent ) from a recognized and accredited medical institution.
• Recognized postgraduate qualification in Psychiatry , such as:
• MD/MS in Psychiatry,
• Fellowship/Membership of a recognized psychiatric college or professional body, or
• Equivalent recognized specialist qualification.
• Completion of recognized specialist training in Psychiatry.
• Valid professional license or eligibility from the relevant health authority.
• Current BLS certification ; additional relevant certifications are an advantage. Experience
• Minimum 5 years of post-specialty experience in Psychiatry, preferably in a hospital or multidisciplinary healthcare setting.
• Previous experience at Consultant or Specialist level is preferred.
• Demonstrated experience in the assessment and management of a broad range of psychiatric disorders.
• Experience in managing acute psychiatric presentations and complex mental health cases.
• Experience in multidisciplinary team collaboration is highly desirable. Skills & Competencies
