Job Description The University of Nevada, Las Vegas invites applications for Sport Psychological Assistant/Sport Staff Psychologist, UNLV Student Wellness [R0153570] ROLE of the POSITION Student Counseling & Psychological Services (CAPS) at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas invites applications for a Sport Psychological Assistant/Sport Staff Psychologist position. This position is embedded within UNLV Athletics and provides a unique opportunity to deliver comprehensive mental health services to student-athletes through a collaborative partnership between CAPS and Athletics. CAPS is an IACS-Accredited center within the Student Wellness unit that includes the departments of Student Health Center, Care Center, Wellness Education and Health Promotion, Disability Resource Center, and Military and Veteran Services. UNLV Athletics is home to more than 400 student-athletes competing across 16 NCAA Division I varsity sports as members of the Mountain West Conference . The department is committed to fostering excellence in athletic performance, academic achievement, and student well-being, creating a dynamic and collaborative environment for professionals dedicated to supporting the mental health and holistic development of student-athletes. This is a full-time, 12-month position. The Sport Psychologist serves as a member of both CAPS and Athletics and is co-supervised by CAPS and Athletics leadership. The primary responsibility of this position is to provide accessible, culturally responsive, and evidence-based mental health services to student-athletes to support their emotional well-being, academic success, personal development, and overall functioning. Responsibilities include individual, couples, and group therapy; crisis assessment and intervention; psychological assessment; consultation; and outreach programming. The Sport Psychologist also provides mental health consultation to coaches, athletic trainers, sports medicine staff, and Athletics administrators while promoting a culture of wellness and help-seeking among student-athletes. In addition to clinical services, the Sport Psychologist provides psychoeducational programming and performance-related interventions that support resilience, stress management, adjustment, leadership development, and optimal functioning in academic and athletic environments. The Sport Psychologist works collaboratively with coaches, athletic trainers, sports medicine staff, athletic administrators, CAPS clinicians, psychiatrists, and care management professionals to ensure coordinated and comprehensive care for student-athletes. Additional responsibilities may include conducting needs assessments, evaluating programs and services, participating on CAPS and Athletics committees, supervising doctoral interns and graduate trainees (as appropriate for licensure level), and contributing to the continued development of integrated mental health services within Athletics and

Minimum Qualifications

Sport Psychological Assistant: This position requires a doctoral degree in Counseling or Clinical Psychology from an accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and one year of related professional experience. Credentials must be obtained prior to the employment start date. Demonstrated experience and training in generalist counseling is required. Experience providing mental health services to collegiate student-athletes, athletes, or other high-performing populations is required. Training or experience in sport psychology, performance enhancement, and consultation within athletic settings is preferred. Certification as a Certified Mental Performance Consultant (CMPC) through the Association for Applied Sport Psychology (AASP) is preferred but not required. Candidates must obtain a provisional license as a Nevada Psychological Assistant by the start date. Candidates are required to attain licensure as a Psychologist in Nevada within 18 months from the date of hire for postdoctoral candidates and 24 months from the date of hire for new doctoral graduates. Sport Staff Psychologist: This position requires a doctoral degree in Counseling or Clinical Psychology from an accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and one year of related professional experience. Demonstrated experience and training in generalist counseling is required. Experience providing mental health services to collegiate student-athletes, athletes, or other high-performing populations is required. Training or experience in sport psychology, performance enhancement, and consultation within athletic settings is preferred. Certification as a Certified Mental Performance Consultant (CMPC) through the Association for Applied Sport Psychology (AASP) is preferred but not required. Licensure for independent practice as a Psychologist is required, and Nevada licensure for independent practice as a Psychologist is required prior to the start of employment. Successful candidates will have strong clinical assessment and crisis intervention skills, including experience working with complex presenting concerns in a high-performance or collegiate setting. Experience providing brief therapy, group counseling, and consultation is required. Experience in supervision and training is preferred, as this position may involve supervision of trainees depending on licensure status. A desire to work in a highly collaborative, multidisciplinary environment is essential, including close partnership with Athletics staff such as coaches, athletic trainers, sports medicine providers, and athletic administrators, in addition to CAPS clinicians.
