Summary This position is located in the Department of Justice (DOJ), Justice Management Division (JMD), Library Staff, DOJ Museum. Duties The duties and responsibilities for a Archivist, GS-1420-11/12/13 generally include, but are not limited to, the following: Museum senior technical authority on records appraisal, analyzing Department records and case files across the full breadth of the archival program. Negotiate the retention, transfer, or disposition of records with the National Archives and Records Administration and Department records management officials. Represent the Museum in agency-level and interagency discussions on records appraisal policy. Recommend best practices related to archival processes for Museum and Department staff. Evaluate and recommends improvements to storage, housing, and environment-monitoring practices across the archival program. Qualifications To qualify for the position of Archivist, at GS-1420-11/12/13, you must meet the qualification requirements listed below. Basic Requirements: A. Bachelor's degree in archival science or bachelor's degree with a major that includes 18 semester hours in archival science, history and/or in political science or government, and 12 semester hours in one or any combination of the following: archival science, history, American civilization, economics, political science, public administration, or government.

- at least 30 semester hours that included courses as shown inA above, plus appropriate experience or additional education Evaluation of Experience: Professional experience must have been in archival science, or in a directly related field of work such as history that involved the collection, appraisal, analysis, or synthesis of information having historical or archival values. The following are illustrative of kinds of experience that may be accepted as meeting the professional experience requirements: (1) experience as an archivist in Federal, state, religious institution, business, or other archives ,or in manuscript depositories, and (2) experience of an archival nature that involved research in archival science, or in a directly related field such as history, government, economics, political science, international relations, or international law. Specialized Experience: For the GS-11, you must have one year of specialized experience at the GS-09 grade level or equivalent pay band in the Federal Service, which includes: Preparing appraisal reports and/or recommendations regarding retention in the Museum's holdings, transfer to the National Archives and Records Administration, or other disposition applicable to records schedules. OR Education: A Ph.D. or equivalent degree or three (3) academic years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or an LL.M. if related. OR Combination of Education and Experience: Combinations of successfully completed graduate school education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements. The total percentages must equal at least 100 percent to qualify for a GS-11. Only graduate education in excess of the first two years may be used to qualify. Specialized Experience: For the GS-12, you must have one year of specialized experience at the GS-11 grade level or equivalent pay band in the Federal Service, which includes: Developing finding aids, including inventories, indexes, catalogs, and/or descriptive guides; Using standard museum nomenclature and/or catalog accession systems to name files and/or records to catalog collections. Specialized Experience: For the GS-13, you must have one year of specialized experience at the GS-12 grade level or equivalent pay band in the Federal Service, which includes: Negotiating the retention, transfer, or disposition of records with the National Archives and Records Administration and/or Department records management officials; Implementing policies and/or procedures for the archival program; and providing strategic leadership for archival programs. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in a conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.
