Broadcast Maintenance Technician

Summary This position serves as a Broadcast Maintenance Technician in the Broadcast Operations Directorate, Office of Cuba Broadcasting (OCB), U.S. Agency for Global Media (USAGM). The Broadcast Operations Directorate is responsible for supporting and maintaining the technical infrastructure, including radio, multimedia studio, and digital broadcast equipment in the OCB's multimedia broadcast studios and operations facilities. Duties As a Broadcast Maintenance Technician, you will be responsible for duties to include, but are not limited to: Providing technical support for all agency end-users of broadcast equipment and systems, including video and audio routers, video switchers, audio mixers, studio and ENG cameras, satellite receivers, video and audio servers, multimedia audiovisual studios, lighting systems, non-linear edit systems, intercom systems, and digital telephone hybrid interfaces. Installing, cable, wire, and fabricate technical and mechanical solutions. Extensive hands-on experience is required in broadcast equipment installation, including racking gear, pulling cable, and installing BNC fittings, Ethernet, and XLR connectors. Providing rapid response to emergency situations that may require equipment substitutions or rerouting to minimize loss of signal-to-air and production facility downtime. Identifying broadcast system workflow weaknesses and designing, constructing, and installing modifications as necessary to correct the problems. Serves as Systems Administrator or network administrator for multi-user broadcast systems. Install and maintain all software applications and modify applications for best use within the Marti facility. Preparing written reports, studies, analyses, and proposals to support the ongoing management of all broadcast systems in multimedia studio. Establishing and maintaining collaboration, planning, and Vendor Relationships; working with the Technical Operations Manager and Senior Technical Staff in planning, designing, executing, implementing, modifying, and evaluating technical projects, applications, and systems. Testing, Evaluation, and Preventative Maintenance, Planning, designing, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating testing methodologies within assigned areas to determine system/application efficiency and effectiveness. Performing scheduled corrective and preventative maintenance on complex radio and multimedia studio broadcast equipment and systems, including routers, switchers, video and audio servers, mixers, non-linear editing systems, satellite receivers, studio and ENG cameras, intercom systems, and digital telephone hybrid interfaces. Qualifications Specialized Experience at the GS-13 grade level: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-12 which is directly related to this line of work. Specialized Experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Specialized Experience: Specialized experience includes ALL of the following: Uses expert skill in reading and interpreting schematics or detailed design drawings for equipment and systems installed across all broadcast platforms and facilities; Manages tasks of installation and repairs of digital and analog broadcast equipment and systems used to produce and broadcast multimedia (radio, TV, digital) programming; thoroughly and efficiently tests, repairs, and calibrates cross-platform broadcast equipment to meet U.S. and international broadcast standards; Prepare accurate and complete records of work performed and are able to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing with supervisors and peers. Education Education is not required for this grade level. It cannot be used for qualification purposes.
