To meet the sector's toughest education challenges, the IRC's Education Technical Unit (TU) collaborates with the Airbel Impact Lab
• the IRC's research and innovation department
• to design, test, and scale innovative solutions that reach last-mile teachers and learners. A flagship example is aprendIA, an AI-powered teacher professional development program delivered via low-tech, widely accessible channels to support teachers working in under-resourced, crisis-affected, and multilingual classrooms. The Education Content Manager plays a central role in supporting content and pedagogy quality assurance across this work. Sitting at the intersection of pedagogy, quality assurance, and content development, the Manager helps ensure that what teachers experience is pedagogically sound, contextually appropriate, and safe. In the near term, the bulk of this role will focus on aprendIA; over time it may extend to the IRC's broader portfolio of teacher support and education innovation initiatives as priorities evolve. Major Responsibilities: Working under the direction of the Education Advisor and in support of senior technical staff, the Education Content Manager focuses on execution, quality, and content development
• rather than setting technical strategy or leading external representation
• across the following areas: Testing, quality assurance & troubleshooting for digital & AI-enhanced programming
• Conduct regular testing of digital course flows, prompt responses, and chatbot behaviors
• assessing accuracy, clarity, pedagogical alignment, and cultural appropriateness.
• Communicate testing notes with developer(s) on the team and collaborate on solutions that maintain pedagogical quality.
• Red-team digital content to identify edge cases, problematic outputs, and safety gaps.
• Maintain clear, actionable QA logs that track issues, findings, and resolution status across the initiatives supported.
• Synthesize findings into prioritized recommendations, distinguishing content fixes from product or design fixes, and flag where testing results suggest content may not be achieving its intended learning purpose.
• Review usage, completion, and engagement data findings alongside QA findings to surface early signals of whether content is supporting teacher learning and uptake, flagging patterns for senior technical and MEAL colleagues.
• Troubleshoot content-related issues flagged by country teams or surfaced through data and program monitoring, and support testing of new features, materials, and content updates ahead of release.
• Review and quality-assure teaching and learning content and materials across TU projects as requested, checking for pedagogical soundness, evidence alignment, and contextual fit. Capturing process & learning
• Refine quality frameworks and rubrics for evaluating digitally delivered pedagogical content, including dimensions such as context fit and alignment with evidence-based practice.
• Document QA and content-development processes, criteria, and lessons learned for internal use and external sharing.
• Connect testing and QA insights to available evidence on teacher engagement, classroom practice, and learner outcomes, contributing to the team’s understanding of what is driving impact in digital an AI-enabled teacher support.
• Support senior technical and MEAL colleagues in translating content and QA insights into evaluation questions and learning agenda priorities, so that testing feeds directly into how the team understands outcomes and impact.
• Contribute to accessible knowledge products (e.g. blog posts, working papers, briefs) that articulate what quality looks like in technology-enabled and conventional teacher professional development, in support of the team's thought leadership and external engagement.
• Support presentations, funder updates, and partner briefings that draw on QA findings and learning across projects.
• Adapt and apply quality frameworks and documentation practices to other TU content and teacher-support materials as requested. Content development
• Work alongside government, local partners and local content creators to develop and adapt content for programs, ensuring alignment with local curriculum, global best practices and user interface (UI) requirements.
• Draft and refine short, structured course content for digital modalities, aligned with strategy, templates, and evidence-based pedagogy.
• Develop one-off or thematic modules in response to identified needs (e.g. managing test anxiety during exam periods; supporting children with learning difficulties in large classes).
• Review and refine content deliverables such as quiz questions and strategy descriptions, and support localization review for new cultural and operational contexts.
• Develop and adapt teaching and learning materials for other TU teacher-support and innovation initiatives as requested, drawing on existing IRC resources, established course outlines, and context-specific input.
• Propose alternative formats through which courses and learning games can still qualify as recognized coursework (completion criteria, evidence of learning, assessment logic) while deliberately departing from the conventional module-and-assessment structure, grounded in how educators actually engage in low-connectivity, messaging-based, time-constrained settings. Broader innovation & cross-TU support
• Support senior technical staff in scoping and needs assessment for new deployments, contexts, and delivery modalities.
• Provide flexible content, quality assurance, and documentation support across the Education TU and its collaboration with the Airbel Impact Lab as organizational priorities evolve.
