Maintenance Mechanic

Summary The incumbent performs routine maintenance and repairs to facilities, structures, equipment and related fixtures primarily at the Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical center in Charleston, SC. May occasionally be required to perform work at our Myrtle Beach CBOC and other locations as needed. Duties Incumbent uses a variety of trade practices associated with carpentry, masonry, painting, and other related trades. Incumbent will be required to hang sheetrock, hang wall items, assist construction crew with projects within the Medical Center and CBOCs, hospital signage work, wainscot paneling and trim work, hard vinyl flooring (Centiva) and other duties as assigned Incumbent will be required to paint, prepare wall surfaces for painting, protect surrounding area from paining activity, fume co 1trol and trim work. Incumbent must have knowledge of maintenance trades sufficient to perform routine maintenance tasks and projects. Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:30am-3:30pm. Subject to change based on Agency Needs. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: The work requires prolonged standing, climbing up and down ladders and scaffolding, working in cramped awkward positions while installing items; reaching, lifting, and bending while using hand and powered tools; lifting, pushing and pulling objects of varying weights up to 20 pounds and less often, up to 50 pounds. Occasionally lifts or moves with assistance moderately heavy objects weighing more than 50 pounds. Also requires working outside in low and high temperatures with frequent breaks.
