Supervisory Physician (Emergency Medicine)

Summary About the Position: Serves as the Deputy Chief of Emergency Medicine in the DIR of Medicine, Dept. of Emergency Medicine, Office of the Chief; Shifts will consist of rotating 10-hour clinical shifts; Sunday to Saturday/Holidays; On Call; Overtime; Shift rotation/schedules will vary at the commands discretion This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. Duties

• Will serve as the Deputy Chief of Emergency Medicine.
• Provides direct clinical emergency medical care to a wide range of patient presentations, ages and conditions.
• Conducts initial resuscitation and stabilization of patients.
• Performs invasive and non-invasive diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, including lifesaving and lesser procedures.
• Provides supervision/online direction of base ambulance and in-house emergency response.
• Participates in departmental and hospital performance improvement activities and makes recommendations on improvement of work methods, organizational features and the restructuring of positions.
• Participates in the Graduate Medical Education program for Emergency Medicine residents, off-service residents, physician assistant residents, medical students and other medical trainees.
• Interviews candidates for positions in the unit; recommends appointment, promotion, or reassignment.
• Counsels on subordinate employees on performance where needed.
• Identifies developmental and training needs of employees, and arranges or provides training. Basic Requirement for Supervisory Physician (Emergency Medicine) Degree: Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, or equivalent from a school in the United States or Canada. This degree must have been accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association; Association of American Medical Colleges; Liaison Committee on Medical Education; Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school must have provided education and medical knowledge equivalent to accredited schools in the United States. Evidence of equivalency to accredited schools in the United States is demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates, a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduate education in a foreign country, or successful completion of the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination. Licensure: Applicants must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States Graduate Training: Subsequent to obtaining a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree, a candidate must have had at least one year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting, i.e., a one-year internship or the first year of a residency program in a hospital or an institution accredited for such training. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Experience/Training: Applicants must possess 5 years of graduate training in the specialty of the position to be filled or equivalent experience and training. Education FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
