Summary Registered Respiratory Therapist must have the ability to collaboratively consult with physicians and other healthcare professionals for complex respiratory care to develop care plans to provide favorable patient outcomes. Skilled in evaluating the efficacies of therapeutic modalities and skilled in performing advanced airway and ventilation management. Duties Duties include, but not limited to: Using data and patient assessment to establish appropriate plan of care and determine if outcomes are being met. Consulting with physicians and other healthcare professionals to ensure quality of patient care within area of specialty. Managing and maintain the airway and ventilation of the patient using appropriate mechanical means. Determining and implement complex respiratory care such as protocols, respiratory modalities, bronchoscopy, medications or supplemental oxygen and intubation. Monitoring critical systems. Using advanced modes of ventilation and outpatient services, such as home ventilators and COPD case management. Suggesting alternate modes of treatment where indicated based on assessment and analysis of patient response to treatment. Performing invasive procedures such as arterial line placement. Serving as a preceptor to lower graded staff. Leading projects developing new policies, procedures or protocols. Previous home care experience is preferred but not required. Work Schedule: Fulltime. Qualifications Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. English Language Proficiency: Must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with 38 U.S.C. § 7403 (f). Education (TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED): Successfully completed a respiratory care program accredited by the CoARC or its successor. Credential: Must possess and maintain for the duration of employment a valid, current, unrestricted credential of RRT. Licensure: Must possess and maintain for the duration of employment a full, current and unrestricted license from a state to practice as an RRT. Grade Determinations: Experience: In addition to meeting the basic requirements, you must possess at least 1 year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-09), which is directly related to the position to be filled. Your experience must demonstrate the following Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs): Ability to collaboratively consult with physicians and other healthcare professionals for complex respiratory care to develop care plans to provide favorable patient outcomes. Skill in evaluating the efficacies of therapeutic modalities. Skill in performing advanced airway and ventilation management. Preferred Experience: Previous home care experience is preferred, but not required.
