TOWNSHIP, New Jersey. Duties You will serve as a General Equipment Mechanic and provides routine aviation ground support equipment (AGSE), maintenance inspections, aviation-related mandatory special requirements (MSR)/special requirements (SR), and Butler storage building upkeep. The various trades covered are maintenance mechanic and heavy equipment operator. . Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include: Performs preventive and corrective maintenance on aviation ground support equipment (AGSE) used by Air Station Atlantic City, including daily inspections of fuel trucks, fuel bowsers, and general ground support equipment in accordance with applicable Maintenance System Requirements (MSR) standards. Conducts mechanical and electrical inspections and performs repair and servicing of AGSE to maintain equipment reliability, safety, and operational readiness. Monitors and maintains unit-operated fuel trucks at fuel levels sufficient to support daily flight schedules and mission requirements. Operates forklifts and other material-handling equipment to maintain the Butler storage building, including custodial upkeep, equipment organization, storage management, and movement of unit-owned heavy-lift components. Organizes, cleans, inventories, and restocks maintenance vans to ensure they are fully equipped and ready for weekly deployment. Procures parts, materials, and repair services necessary for AGSE maintenance and upkeep through the Coast Guard Aviation Material Office and commercial vendors. Administers and maintains Hazardous Material Communication Programs, including the review and management of Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS), and coordinates hazardous material acquisition, storage, handling, and disposal in accordance with applicable safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements. Mandatory training is required which must be successfully completed and other training may occur as necessary for success in the position. Applicants will be rated and ranked based on their knowledge of the following job elements: Knowledge of equipment assembly, installation, repair, etc., Technical practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) Use of measuring instruments Ability to interpret instructions, specifications, etc. (other than blueprinting reading) Ability to use and maintain tools and equipment Knowledge of materials National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
