The

Joint Venture (ACJV), the design and construct (D&C) consortium, will design and build the Central-West Orana REZ transmission project. The new transmission network infrastructure will deliver at least 4.5 gigawatts of new network capacity from 2028 to connect 7.7 gigawatts of wind and solar projects, which is enough to power more than 2 million homes each year. Job Description Our Central-West Orana project is currently seeking dedicated Electrical Trade Assistants to join our growing Energy Hubs team, supporting the construction of switching stations and substations across the project. Working as a Trade Assistant (TA) across 330kV and 500kV high-voltage (HV) switching stations and substations involves supporting electrical and civil crews on large-scale transmission infrastructure projects. These roles are critical to the construction and development of Australia’s CWO transmission network, supporting the delivery of major Energy Hubs, switching stations and substations across the project. This is a remote project position operating on a 14 days on / 7 days off roster. Bus transport is currently provided from Sydney only, with various pick-up and drop-off stops between Sydney and the Mudgee region. All other applicants within NSW will be required to DIDO (Drive In Drive Out) at their own expense. Please note this is not a FIFO role , and candidates residing outside NSW will be required to arrange and fund their own travel to Sydney or site if successful. Key Responsibilities:
- Assisting electricians with the installation and assembly of high-voltage switching station equipment, including switchgear, circuit breakers, disconnectors, isolators, insulators and associated components.
- Assisting with cable hauling, cutting, laying and dressing of power and control cables into trenches, conduits and cable trays, ensuring cables are correctly positioned and secured.
- Supporting the installation of electrical equipment, steel structures, busbars and associated switching station infrastructure. This includes manual assembly tasks such as drilling, bolting, fastening and component preparation.
- Managing and preparing specialised tools and equipment for electrical crews, including drills, hydraulic crimpers and other installation equipment. Assisting with pre-start inspections and reporting or tagging defective equipment.
- Providing general labour support to electrical crews across the switching station, including material handling, site preparation, housekeeping and maintaining clean and organised work areas.
- Following all site safety procedures, electrical safety requirements and instructions from supervisors while maintaining a high standard of housekeeping and safe work practices. Required Skills and Competencies
- A valid Construction White Card is mandatory for entry onto any construction site.
- While specific HV training is often provided, previous experience in high-voltage environments or a strong mechanical/electrical aptitude is highly valued.
- LVR/CPR or willing to obtain
- High risk work licence – EWP
- Telehandler ticket – Gold card
- These roles involve heavy lifting, working outdoors in various conditions and remote environments.
- Safe operation of hand and power tools such as hydraulic crimpers, drills, grinders, and concrete cutters.
- Strong interpersonal skills to coordinate with various trades and clearly report site risks or equipment issues to supervisors.
