Primary Duties

Overview of Department / Position: Aurora Water is responsible for providing life sustaining services to the residents, visitors, and businesses of Aurora. We plan, design, operate, and maintain the drinking water, sanitary sewer, and storm drainage systems throughout the City. Our major infrastructure includes three potable water treatment facilities (totaling over 200 million gallons per day), a reclaimed water treatment facility, over three dozen pump stations, lift stations, and a source-of-supply system containing reservoirs, large diameter pipelines and tunnels. Aurora Water’s mission is to enhance and protect the quality of life for Aurora citizens by providing safe, dependable, and sustainable water, sewer, and stormwater services, today and in the future. On the Capital Project Delivery team, the Engineer with a specialty in project management will be responsible for a variety of engineering and technical tasks primarily focusing on supporting the utility’s capital project delivery program. Engineers are responsible for the procurement and management of consultants/contractors for the delivery of capital improvement projects. A successful candidate for this position could be brought on at the Engineer I, Engineer II, or Project Engineer I level depending on the selected candidate's qualifications, skills, and experience. The core responsibilities are consistent across all three levels, with increasing independence, project responsibility, and project complexity at each level. Salary to be commensurate with experience. Engineer I: $72,638 - $90,798 per year Engineer II: $79,902 - $99,877 per year Project Engineer I: $87,266 - $109,083 per year Primary Duties & Responsibilities: Depending on the level at which the candidate is hired, responsibilities may vary in complexity and level of independence. Across all levels, this position will:

• Conduct engineering review and interpretation of project tasks and components, exercising sound judgment to evaluate options, resolve technical issues, and ensure alignment with project objectives.
• Review and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and engineering reports; apply City standards and codes to assess technical accuracy, identify compliance issues or conflicts, and recommend solutions.
• Coordinate and collaborate with internal teams, consultants, contractors, and other third-party partners to support project objectives and resolve coordination issues.
• Communicate technical and project-related information clearly and professionally in written and oral form to internal and external audiences.
• Coordinate the RFP process for assigned capital projects and manage day-to-day coordination with design consultants.
• Review project scopes, fees, and schedules; formulate technical comments and participate in project negotiations, as appropriate.
• Prepare and distribute project status updates, identify potential budget or schedule variances, and coordinate findings with appropriate staff.
• Apply project management methodologies to deliver capital improvement projects.
• Represent Aurora Water in internal and external settings and support coordination with partners and stakeholders.
• Demonstrate Aurora Water’s values and mission through professional conduct and proactive engagement in organizational initiatives. Engineer I: Works under supervision while developing and applying basic engineering knowledge to assigned tasks and project components. Reviews basic construction drawings, specifications, and engineering reports; coordinates with internal and external partners; and applies fundamental project management methodologies to assigned capital improvement projects. Engineer II: Works under minimal supervision and applies intermediate engineering knowledge to moderately complex tasks and project components. Independently reviews moderately complex technical documents, assesses technical accuracy and compliance, recommends solutions, and manages project coordination and communication. Project Engineer I: Applies advanced engineering knowledge and professional judgment to complex tasks and project components with greater independence. Reviews comprehensive construction drawings, specifications, and engineering reports; communicates complex technical information; and independently represents the department in standard internal and external settings.

• Bachelor of Engineering Degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Architecture, or directly related field from ABET accredited program Experience:
• Engineer I: No Experience Required.
• Engineer II: Minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience performing engineering calculations and performing project management.
• Project Engineer I: Four (4) to six (6) years of relevant experience performing engineering calculations and performing project management. Licenses and Certifications:
• Engineer I: Engineering Intern or Engineer in Training (EI or EIT) Certification
• Engineer II: Engineering Intern or Engineer in Training (EI or EIT) Certification
• Project Engineer I: Professional Engineering License (or ability to obtain via reciprocity within 6 months) or Architectural License
• All Levels: Colorado driver's license with a good driving history Preferred Qualifications:
• Prior Municipality Experience
• Professional Project Manager (PMP) certification Knowledge:
