Crime Victims Compensation Program Internship (Unpaid)

Summary The District of Columbia Courts offers internships for students interested in seeking valuable experience in court administration. Interns have the opportunity to make meaningful contributions to the Court's mission to protect rights and liberties, uphold and interpret the law, and resolve disputes fairly and effectively in the District of Columbia. This internship is for Fall/Winter 2026. Duties This position is an unpaid internship working with the Crime Victims Compensation Program. This team's mission is to provide compensation to eligible victims of violent crimes, survivors of homicide victims, and dependent family members that qualify to receive compensation awards in accordance with the governing rules and statutes. The duties of the intern will consist of: Assist the team with ensuring applications submitted are processed in accordance with the governing statutes, rules and standard operating procedures. Assist the team with answering inquiries about the program from the public, service providers, organizations, governmental representatives, and court personnel. Assist the applicants with filing applications by receiving, reviewing, and determining completeness of application. Assist the team with creating electronic claims folders for each application received and ensuring all necessary documentation is placed in the electronic folder when received. Assist the team with contacting applicants, agencies and/or organizations to obtain or request additional information and documentation when needed. Assist the program with outreach initiatives and activities. Position is flexible to focus the duties to meet the interests and goals of the intern. Qualifications

A U.s.

Citizen or authorized by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Service to intern the U.S. and at least 18 years old. Must be able to commit to a minimum of 10 hours per week. Actively involved in an undergraduate program. Seeking students majoring in Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, Criminal Justice, Criminology, Legal Studies and Data Analytics. The incumbent should be an enthusiastic and engaged professional who enjoys working with a diverse group of Court personnel and customers and lives the DC Courts' values of Accountability, Excellence, Fairness, Integrity, Fairness, Integrity, Respect and Transparency. Background and security investigations required. Education To qualify based on education, upload a copy of your college transcript or degree.
