- Incumbent performs a variety of metal repair, fabrication, plan, layout, and structural disassembly/ assembly of aircraft and aircraft components.
- Incumbent shall work from drawings, manuals, technical directives, instructions, and at times, under the guidance of a higher-graded mechanic.
- Incumbent will disassemble, repair, assemble, modify, measure, and/or check, as required, to process aircraft, aircraft engine structures, components, assembles, and/or sub-assemblies.
- Incumbent checks and realigns components using available jigs and fixtures after replacing structural parts or reinstalling fittings.
- Incumbent uses measuring instruments such as steel rules, drill gauges, compasses, and other precision-measuring devices.
- Incumbent uses various hand power tools and metal working hand tools. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. The Screen-out for this position is performing the following tasks: Performs aircraft sheet metal repair, fabrication, modification, and structural disassembly/assembly on aircraft components, assemblies, and subassemblies; Interprets technical drawings, maintenance manuals, directives, and work instructions to complete assigned repair, manufacturing, and modification tasks; Uses precision measuring tools, jigs, fixtures, hand tools, power tools, rivet guns, presses, shears, brakes, grinders, and related equipment to fabricate and install aircraft metal components; Manufactures and installs patches, splices, reinforcements, and replacement parts using approved aircraft fasteners and standard repair methods; Works with aluminum, titanium, steel, stainless steel, alloys, plastics, honeycomb, tubing, and extrusions while complying with quality, safety, PPE, tool-control, hazardous-material, and FOD-prevention requirements.
