  • As Needed Reports to: Director of Protective Services or another designated leader # of Direct Reports: 5-10 Primary Function/General Purpose of Position Under the guidance and direction of leadership, the Manager of Protective Services is responsible for implementation of proactive security management protection measures, ensuring regular patrols are conducted for risk hazardous avoidance, enforcing established organizational safety and security policies, and supporting a positive customer – friendly service-oriented approach. The Protective Services Manager is responsible for the daily operation of Protective Services. They will Ensure compliance with regulatory agencies and act as the Director of Protective Services in his/her absence. Assists with investigations as requested/needed. Essential Job Functions
  • The Manager is responsible for the 24/7 supervision of the Mercy Health Protective Services Operations. He or she will manage and prepare staffing schedules, shift assignments, and find replacements when staffing shortages arise.
  • The manager will conduct quarterly check-ins with department employees, ensure compliance with annual competency training required for individual positions and any mandatory organizational training. Ensure employee compliance with established Bon Secours Mercy Health policies and procedures. He or she will have knowledge of the timekeeping procedures and ensure timecards are completed and accurate.
  • The manager will coordinate with the recruitment department on the hiring of new employees and all new hire orientation and onboarding processes. He or she will have direct input into any disciplinary / coaching actions and ensure they are documented appropriately and comply with Human Resources policies and procedures.
  • Develops and establishes operating policies consistent with overall policies and objectives and ensures their adequate execution. Evaluates overall operations regularly and systematically and periodically reports these results to their respective Director/Leader.
  • Introduce performance improvement initiatives and ensure compliance with federal and state regulatory agencies (i.e., NFPA-Fire, EPA, OSHA, ODH, Joint Commission and other appropriate regulatory agencies) related to protective services, fire safety management and security management. Participate in various committees as requested or assigned. Assists Risk Management, Corporate Compliance, Legal Services, and other departments with investigations as requested.
  • Ensure Joint Commission/CMS/ODH/OSHA regulatory standards are met for the Protective Services Department. Manages department resources in a manner consistent with departmental budgets and productivity.
  • Fosters the spirit of team collaboration, supports inter-disciplinary work teams, and partnership. Develops relationships with internal and external customers and community partners (i.e., Fire Department, federal and state law enforcement agencies, EMS, Courts, Correctional Facilities, and others). Supports ongoing communication and provides organizational updates to staff. Participates in gathering, investigating, researching, and analyzing of data and/or initiating studies and/or activities to assess their effect on an organization/system-wide basis or intra/interdepartmental operations.
  • Selects, trains/orients and assigns staff. Develops standards of performance, evaluates performance, and initiates or makes recommendations on personnel actions.
  • Collaborates in the development and preparation of short-term and long-range plans and budgets based upon broad area goals, which support the organization’s mission and strategic plan.
  • Fosters the spirit of team collaboration, supports inter-disciplinary work teams, and partnership. Develops relationships with internal and external customers and community partners (i.e., Fire Department, federal and state law enforcement agencies, EMS, Courts, Correctional Facilities, and others).   • Valid driver’s license (Required)
  • Basic Life Support American Heart Association (Required within 6 months of hire)
  • Ohio Specific – Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy Certification (mandatory for police hires, recommended for all others) Education
  • Associate's degree (required)
  • Bachelor’s degree (preferred) Work Experience
  • 3-5 years of experience in police, safety, or security field (required)
  • Supervisory experience (required) Training
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (required within 6 months of hire)
  • Firearms qualifications; successfully pass bi-annual firearms qualifications.
  • Completion of Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy (OPOTA) Chief of Police Training Course (required within six months of hire for Ohio residents) Skills Hard/Tech/Clinical Skills : ​Basic Skills using Microsoft Word Demonstrate proficiency in the use, maintenance, and safety protocols for defensive tools and restraint equipment (e.g., batons, handcuffs, body-worn cameras, soft restraints), in alignment with healthcare regulations and organizational policies. Maintain strong technical skills in radio communication, report writing, surveillance systems, and access control software, with the ability to accurately document incidents and coordinate effectively with clinical teams and law enforcement.
