Description TITLE: Cataloging Specialist Part-time position: Non-exempt position, 19 hours per week OR 25 hours per week. Dependent on applicant availability. Schedule: Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays afternoon/evening shifts after 2pm and Wednesdays 8 am
- 12 pm. Hourly Wage Range: $18.92 - $29.71 with a starting pay of $18.92 per hour 19 Hours/week Benefits:

- Professional Development Objective: Performs primarily copy cataloging and classifying of materials to provide library users with optimal access and discovery of library resources. Duties:
- Performs primarily copy cataloging of print and AV materials according to national, state, local and consortium standards and guidelines.
- Classifies library materials according to national, state, local, and consortium standards and maintains schema of locally devised genres for fiction, movies and music.
- Coordinates with Department Supervisors and Manager to ensure materials are consistently flowing through the department in a timely manner. Coordinates with department staff to complete the processing of library materials.
- Assists with checking in periodicals into the database as needed. Assists with processing magazines and newspapers for circulation and public use as needed.
- Performs special cataloging projects and database maintenance as assigned.
- Assists with the processing and repair of library materials when necessary.
- Provides backup coverage for interlibrary loan services as needed and assigned by Cataloging Supervisor or Collection Services Manager.
- Contributes in the creation and maintenance of procedural documentation and instructions.
- Prepares monthly reports of activity. Maintains and provides statistical reports on a monthly, annually and as-needed basis.
- Participates in departmental initiatives and helps facilitate departmental projects and goals.
- Participates in professional development activities relating to areas of responsibility. Keeps informed of current information and trends.
- Performs other duties as assigned. Requirements Minimum Qualifications: Education: Expertise acquired through completion of an LA/LTA certification program in an Associate's degree program, or equivalent relevant library experience. Emphasis in cataloging or technical services is preferred. Experience: One year cataloging experience in a comparable business, organization, or library is preferred. Public Library experience is desirable. Skills: Office & Library:
- Knowledge of productivity suites.
- Knowledge of integrated library systems and search strategies.
- Familiarity with cataloging interfaces and bibliographic utilities.
- Familiarity with MARC, RDA, Dewey Decimal Classification, Library of Congress Subject Headings and OCLC bibliographic formats and standards. Ability to learn and apply cataloging standards at copy cataloging level.
- Ability to complete detailed work accurately and efficiently.
- Ability to type with speed and accuracy.
- Ability to operate all equipment necessary to perform job duties.
- Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks. Ability to meet deadlines.
- Ability to adapt to and effectively implement change.
- Ability to exercise reasonable and independent judgment and discretion. Communication:
- Communicates effectively in English, both orally and in writing. Speaking skills in other languages, particularly Spanish, is a plus.
- Ability to stay calm and effective in difficult situations.
- Ability to empathize and relate to the needs of all patrons and staff. Supervisory Responsibility: None Contacts: Internal: Library staff and management. External: Personnel at other libraries. Physical Requirements: The physical requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the functions of this job. Physical requirements include: good speaking, hearing and vision ability, excellent manual dexterity, ability to push a cart weighing 100 pounds, ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds occasionally and up to 20 pounds frequently. Working Conditions: Work is performed in a typical library environment. Part-time position. May require some weekend and evening work.
