Education Technician (TRIO)

Summary This position is part of the Haskell Indian Nations University, Bureau of Indian Education (BIE), Department of the Interior (DOI). As a Education Technician (TRIO) you will be responsible for promoting academic success, student retention, and graduation while providing direct administrative and technical support to the TRIO Director. Duties As an Education Technician (TRIO), GS-1702-7, your typical work assignments may include the following under supervision: Conduct interviews with students to verify program eligibility and academic needs. Coordinate student referrals for tutoring, counseling, academic advising, and other university or community support services. Provide technical support and customer service to students participating in the TRIO Program. Maintain student academic files and assist in monitoring student academic progress. Manage various databases of prospective and current Native American students in the local and national school systems. Track student progress by gathering, compiling, validating, and maintaining data related to grades, attendance, retention, transfers, and graduation rates. Qualifications Applicants must meet the qualification requirements contained in the OPM Standards. For this position, they are listed below. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. GS-7: Applicant possesses one (1) year of specialized experience that equipped me with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position. This experience is related to the work of the position and equivalent to at least the GS-06 level in the Federal service that includes: conducting interviews with students to verify program eligibility and academic needs; monitoring student academic success and maintaining student records and program files; managing student referrals to tutoring, counseling, academic advising, and community support services; assisting students with school application processes, admissions timelines, and financial aid resources; coordinating educational workshops and informational activities; monitoring and identifying students at risk of attrition using various database systems and faculty referrals; finalizing documents using software applications such as electronic mail, desktop publishing calendar, and spreadsheets.
