About the Role We’re looking for a Bridge and Heavy Civil Project Manager that will lead the planning, execution, and successful delivery of bridge, roadway, and heavy civil infrastructure projects throughout the Southeast. This role provides leadership for assigned projects from preconstruction through closeout while ensuring work is delivered safely, profitably, on schedule, and in accordance with contract requirements and client expectations. The Bridge and Heavy Civil Project Manager serves as the primary connection among owners, engineers, public agencies, inspectors, field leadership, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal operations teams. This position is responsible for project strategy, contract administration, financial performance, scheduling, procurement, quality, risk management, stakeholder communication, and overall project execution. Project assignments may require travel among RNGD’s five offices and project sites throughout the Southeast. Core Responsibilities Project Leadership

  • Leads assigned bridge and heavy civil projects from preconstruction and startup through final closeout and turnover.
  • Establish project execution plans, staffing strategies, procurement requirements, logistics plans, budgets, schedules, and performance objectives.
  • Provide direction to Field Engineers, Assistant Project Managers, Superintendents, Foremen, subcontractors, suppliers, and field teams.
  • Align office and field operations around project scope, schedule, safety, quality, production, and financial goals.
  • Serve as the primary project contact for owners, engineers, inspectors, agency representatives, and other key stakeholders. Preconstruction, Startup and Planning
  • Collaborate with estimating, preconstruction, and field leadership during pursuit, bid review, constructability review, and project turnover.
  • Participate in preliminary scheduling and project strategies such as logistics, procurement, productions, and equipment selections.
  • Review contracts, plans, specifications, estimates, geotechnical information, permits, environmental requirements, and project commitments.
  • Develop project-specific safety, quality, staging, phasing, traffic control, logistics, procurement, and mobilization plans in coordination with field leadership.
  • Identify contract deliverables, testing and inspection requirements, long-lead materials, temporary works, permits, and agency reporting obligations.
  • Facilitate subcontractor and supplier buyout, pre-mobilization, and project startup. Bridge and Heavy Civil Operations
  • Coordinate construction activities involving bridge structures, foundations, piling, drilled shafts, structural concrete, reinforcing steel, structural steel, girders, decks, bearings, joints, and associated systems.
  • Coordinate roadway, grading, excavation, embankment, drainage, utility, retaining structure, and related transportation infrastructure work.
  • Partner with Superintendents and Foremen to plan work, maintain production, manage labor and equipment, and achieve project milestones.
  • Develop and maintain project staging, phasing, access, traffic maintenance, and logistics strategies.
  • Prioritize submittals, RFIs, procurement, material deliveries, inspections, testing, and field decisions to support uninterrupted production.
  • Monitor quantities, installed production, labor productivity, equipment utilization, and subcontractor performance. Safety, Quality and Environmental Management
  • Champion RNGD’s safety program and reinforce a safety-first culture across project teams, subcontractors, and partners.
  • Coordinate with field leadership to identify hazards, develop job-specific safety plans, and implement corrective actions.
  • Lead implementation of the project quality control plan, required testing, inspections, documentation, and nonconformance resolution.
  • Ensure work complies with contract documents, applicable codes, agency requirements, environmental permits, traffic control requirements, and RNGD standards.
  • Proactively identify and mitigate safety, quality, environmental, permitting, labor, material, equipment, and schedule risks. Financial and Contract Management
  • Take ownership of project budgets, cost controls, commitments, cash flow, forecasts, productivity, and profitability.
  • Prepare accurate monthly cost projections, labor reports, equipment reports, billings, and financial performance updates.
  • Administer prime contracts, subcontracts, purchase orders, insurance and bonding requirements, and vendor agreements.
  • Manage change orders, claims support, requests for equitable adjustment, commercial negotiations, and dispute avoidance.
  • Review and approve material and equipment invoices, subcontractor payment applications, and owner payment requests.
  • Maintain complete and current job cost analysis, change management, commitments, and related contract documentation. Scheduling and Performance Management
  • Develop and maintain detailed project schedules using critical path method (CPM) principles.
  • Monitor critical and near-critical activities and implement recovery strategies when required.
  • Lead weekly planning and scheduling meetings with field leadership, subcontractors, and project stakeholders.
  • Integrate procurement, submittals, agency reviews, utility coordination, testing, inspections, and material deliveries into the project schedule.
  • Review project performance and communicate schedule status, constraints, and corrective actions to clients and internal leadership. Client, Agency and Partner Relationships
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with owners, DOT and public agency representatives, engineers, inspectors, subcontractors, suppliers, and community stakeholders.
  • Lead owner and progress meetings and provide clear, timely project status reporting.
  • Coordinate with municipal, state, federal, utility, and transportation agencies as required by the project.
  • Communicate risks, opportunities, scope changes, and schedule impacts early and transparently.
  • Represent RNGD with professionalism, integrity, responsiveness, and a commitment to long-term partnerships. Team Development and Continuous Improvement
  • Mentor and develop Field Engineers, Assistant Project Managers, interns, and emerging project leaders.
  • Set clear expectations, delegate ownership, provide feedback, and hold project team members accountable for results.
  • Support use of RNGD authorized project management technologies, production data, and field reporting tools to improve decision-making.
  • Capture lessons learned and recommend process improvements that strengthen safety, quality, efficiency, and project outcomes.
  • Support estimating, pursuit strategy, constructability review, and future project planning as needed. Field and Travel Requirements
  • May require travel among RNGD’s five offices and project sites throughout the Southeast based on project assignments and business needs.
  • Work in active civil construction environments and around heavy equipment, traffic, marine or water-adjacent conditions, and changing weather conditions.
  • Walk uneven terrain, climb stairs and ladders, and access bridge, roadway, and infrastructure work areas as required.
