  • Working with Amazing Kids The Opportunity The Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) provides individualized, evidence-based breastfeeding support to mothers and families at COPA’s Bend and Redmond locations. This role conducts comprehensive maternal, infant, and feeding assessments, develops personalized feeding plans, and helps families navigate breastfeeding challenges while supporting their individual goals. Working collaboratively with physicians and care teams, the IBCLC delivers family-centered care that considers each family's cultural, psychosocial, and nutritional needs. Through clinical expertise, education, and ongoing follow-up, this role supports positive patient experiences and healthy outcomes for children and families. The Job
  • Assess breastfeeding needs: Conduct comprehensive maternal, infant, and feeding assessments using current lactation research and evidence-based practices.
  • Develop individualized care plans: Collaborate with mothers to create, implement, and update feeding plans that address breastfeeding goals, identified concerns, and nutritional needs.
  • Provide lactation education and counseling: Offer evidence-based guidance on breastfeeding, medications, substances, complementary therapies, and strategies to support milk production and infant safety.
  • Coordinate patient care: Partner with physicians, healthcare providers, and community resources to support family-centered care, address challenges, and coordinate follow-up.
  • Maintain clinical standards and documentation: Follow COPA policies and applicable regulations, maintain current lactation knowledge, and complete accurate and timely clinical documentation and billing. Requirements Education and Certification
  • Current Board-Certified Lactation Consultant; outpatient lactation experience required.
  • Graduate from a Pathway 2 Accredited Lactation Academic Program
  • Current certification issued by International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners; Certification must be in good standing Experience
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills and the ability to interact with a diverse population
  • Superior lactation process skills
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Ability to make independent judgments and prioritize workload
  • Knowledge of community services
  • Ability to multi-task and work independently
  • Must have experience with working with electronic medical records systems and MS Office
  • Epic EMR experience preferred. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English a plus. Physical Requirements
  • Use of clear and audible speaking voice and the ability to hear normal speech level in person, over the telephone or through use of other required technology.
  • Sitting or standing for long periods of time. Frequent repetitive motion includes computer keyboard use, reaching with hands and arms, and walking. Occasional lifting and or moving up to 30 pounds and on rare occasion up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include viewing computer monitor for long periods of time, close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
  • Must be able to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as required. Working Conditions
  • Work inside in a general medical office setting with ergonomically configured equipment.
  • The employee is subject to hazards including a variety of physical conditions such as proximity to mechanical parts and chemicals including odors. The employee has been identified as having the likelihood of occupational exposure to blood and other potentially infectious materials, therefore are included in the OSHA Exposure Control Plan with specification for preventing contact with the above materials.
