Department: Department of Geosciences Department's Website: Summary of Job Duties: The Department of Geosciences ( in the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Arkansas invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor or Associate Professor of Geosciences in planetary geology to start in August 2027. This is a standard nine-month faculty appointment. The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated record of excellence in planetary and/or planetary satellite research and teaching, with evidence of strong mentorship of undergraduate and/or graduate students. They will facilitate an active program of research, teaching, and service within the Department of Geosciences and the interdisciplinary Arkansas Center for Space and Planetary Sciences ( which conducts research on astronomy and planetary science, the geology and biology of the planets, and asteroid and comet surfaces. The successful applicant will have significant experience in planetary geology, as evidenced by peer-reviewed publications and/or grant funding. The field(s) of study may include planetary geology, planetary atmospheres, and/or planetary satellites. The candidate will have a demonstrated ability to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in planetary geology, in addition to having experience mentoring students in independent research. Evidence of ability to be an active and collegial member of interdisciplinary research teams at the university or national/international level is preferred. This is an in-person position. Most university classes are offered face-to-face, and extensive in-person engagement in such activities as office hours, student advising, and departmental, college, and university committee meetings is essential to advancing student success and departmental effectiveness. Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others. About the Department: The Department of Geosciences at the University of Arkansas maintains a faculty of 24 professors, research scientists, and instructors, with expertise across many disciplines. The department has Bachelor of Science degree programs in Geography, Geology, Earth Science, and a GIS certificate with about 140 majors. The graduate program has a graduate GIS certificate, MS in Geography, and MS in Geology degrees as well as a PhD in Geosciences, with about 70 graduate students in total. Strong involvement with the university's Center for Space and Planetary Studies, Center for Advanced Spatial Technologies, and Environmental Dynamics Interdisciplinary Graduate Program are ongoing. This includes MS and PhD programs in Space and Planetary Sciences and Environmental Dynamics. Duties will include:

• 20% Academic Service Activities Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications:
• Ph.D. in geosciences (or a closely related field) from an accredited institution of higher education conferred by the date of initial appointment
• Evidence of, or a demonstrated potential for exceptional teaching and mentoring at either the graduate level or undergraduate level with an emphasis on planetary sciences
• Evidence of, or a demonstrated potential for, an active research agenda in planetary sciences Preferred Qualifications:
• An outstanding record of research achievement and external funding
• Experience in interdisciplinary, transdisciplinary, and/or cross-campus collaborations
• Significant experience in planetary geology and/or planetary atmospheres
• Strong record of successful publication and external funding related to planetary geology and/or planetary atmospheres
• Demonstrated ability to develop effective undergraduate and graduate classes that complement the current course catalog, including courses in planetary geology and/or planetary atmospheres
