Job Summary Under limited supervision, plans, develops, and coordinates activities, programs, and funding for various performing, visual and cultural arts activities to provide the community with cultural and educational programming. Job Description Overview The City of Dallas Office of Arts and Culture (OAC) seeks qualified candidates for the Cultural Programs Coordinator position at the Juanita J Craft Civil Right House (JJCCH), a multi-disciplinary role that provides a wide array of programs inspired by the life and legacy of Mrs. Juanita J Craft. The Cultural Programs Coordinator participates in the conception, management, coordination, and supervision of all the visual art programs that are presented at various City cultural centers. Coordinates educational programs that are linked to the museum exhibitions and provides support to other cultural centers and divisions. Essential Functions: 1 Curates and coordinates various exhibition projects during the year; conceives and implements themes and nature of exhibitions, identifies artists, secures shipments of art, installs exhibitions, promotes the programs, and prepares supplementary educational materials. 2 Utilizes and employs graphic design, web authoring, and photography skills to create promotional materials and to manage the center's website and the online press room; develops marketing and press media relations associated with the center's visual art programs and for the performance of general administrative and clerical duties. 3 Supervises and assists technical and installation support to the museum during exhibit rotation; oversees the work for special projects and supervises visual artists, curators, and instructors who offer their services to the center. 4 Performs graphic design duties and web authoring projects that enable the center to advertise art programs and increase attendance and revenues. 5 Partners with artists, instructors, and organizations to offer a variety of educational opportunities to the public through exhibition brochures or catalogues, museum lectures, art demonstrations, workshops, and other programs. 6 Provides general administrative and clerical duties for daily operations; handles petty cash procedures, preparation of contracts and purchase orders, and interaction with staff from Building Services, Parks Department, Risk Management, and other departments. 7 Supplies and delivers assistance and support to other cultural centers and divisions of the Office of Arts and Culture; offers curatorial assistance, exhibition installation, art programs promotion, translation, and graphic design. 8 Performs any and all other work as needed or assigned. Knowledge and Skills 1 Knowledge of exhibition, planning, and curation 2 Knowledge of collection management and related software. 3 Knowledge of marketing, promotions, and graphic design. 4 Knowledge of art administration and best practices. 5 Ability to coordinate art and installation procedures. 6 Ability to curate art and support the collection development. 7 Ability to meet deadlines, demonstrate initiative and creativity, and manage projects efficiently. 8 Ability to work with various people and departments. 9 Communicating effectively verbally and in writing. 10 Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships. Minimum Qualifications: Experience 2 years of experience in arts administration, graphic design, or other humanities-based experience. Licenses and Certifications None Education Bachelor's Degree in Museum Studies, Art, Art History, Art Administration or a related field. Equivalency Associate degree and 4 years of required experience will meet the education and experience requirements.
