Motor Vehicle Operator

Summary As a Motor Vehicle Operator at the WG-5703-8, you will be part of Facilities, Security and Emergency Mgmt, Office of Personnel Management. If selected,you will be the personal driver and messenger for the Director or Deputy Director of OPM. Duties Operate a variety of gasoline, plug-in hybrid (PHEV), electric and or diesel-powered vehicles over highways and streets chiefly in the Washington, DC area and occasionally where OPM facilities are located. Using worker-level knowledge of automotive systems and component repairs, performs emergency and ad-hoc roadside repairs when operating the vehicle beyond the immediate metropolitan area and its environment. Ensure the safe transport of the Director/Deputy Director and passengers and maintains tight schedules when transporting officials and collecting or delivering documents. Possess a high level of courtesy, tact, discretion, and confidentiality that is not typically required of other motor vehicle operators as passengers are always high-level officials. Incumbent independently troubleshoots problems and initiates emergency repairs on vehicles as needed. Qualifications For the WG 8: Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision

• Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Physical Efforts
• Physical effort is used in reading, bending, turning, or moving hands, arms, feet, and legs to operate hand and foot controls. When making repairs or performing inspections, the incumbent may be required to work in tiring, awkward, or uncomfortable positions; and endure extensive stooping, bending, walking, lifting of supplies, equipment, etc. when crawling under vehicles to make repairs in tight spaces. Moderate physical effort is required in the occasional handling of objects typically weighing not more than 20 pounds. Working Conditions
• Driving will be accomplished mostly off station in congested city traffic and highways. Incumbent must stay alert to avoid accidents and will be exposed to full range of weather conditions. The incumbent must be able to sit for long periods of time when making transporting. These working conditions are the same for grades 5 higher. Since the working conditions fully meet those at and above the grade 5 level, this factor does not have grade level impact. You must meet all qualification and eligibility requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.
